My primary research interest lies in unraveling biogeochemical processes within surface marine sediments and their interactions with the water column carbonate chemistry. While alterations in coastal and open ocean carbonate chemistry are influenced by the rise in anthropogenic CO2, it is also essential to recognize the inherent natural variabilities. Importantly, sediment biogeochemical processes, especially within the coastal zone, significantly affect the dynamics of water column carbonate chemistry. This influence is predominantly due to the fluxes of total alkalinity (TA) and dissolved inorganic carbon (DIC) across the sediment-water interface. However, these processes are not fully understood, given their spatial and temporal heterogeneities and the technical challenges involved in their quantification.
